In an article published as a part of The New York Times’ Opinionator blog, prominent food writer Mark Bittman addresses the differences in how we define cruelty in regard to pets and farm animals. Bittman’s article references the difference between animal cruelty inflicted upon pets as opposed to factory-farmed animals and sums up our tolerance of cruel industrial farming practices by pointing out that the industry believes that animals raised for human consumption are “born to be put through living hell.”
